The Association for Women in Science (AWIS) would like to invite your middle school’s girls to join the Girls in Engineering, Math and Science (GEMS) program. GEMS is a free, volunteer-run after-school science enrichment program for Seattle 7th to 8th grade girls to explore STEM through hands-on activities.
This program explores STEM fields as diverse as forensics, oceanography, astrophysics, and neuroscience through hands-on activities with women scientists currently employed in these fields. In addition, we organize several field trips a year ranging from doing coding activities at Google to educational tide pool walks in conjunction with the Seattle Aquarium. GEMS meetings run once a month from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm from November to May and are offered at two locations: the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in downtown Seattle and South Shore PK-8 School in South Seattle. Dates for this year are listed on our website, seattleawis.org/awis-events/gems/. The application for GEMS closes on October 14, 2019 and is available at our website, seattleawis.org/awis-events/gems/.
Direct link to the application can be found here.
Please contact seattlegems@gmail.com if you have any questions about the program.
